Is love at first sight real? A recent study from the University of Chicago has found that the way another person looks at you can hint at their feelings. The research – covered in depth by the Daily Mail – determined that when a person’s eye patterns focus on a strangers face they see them as a potential candidate for romantic love. If there is more focus on other parts of the body it is more physical attraction.

This same study showed that the time it took for a person to make the distinction between these two emotions – love and desire – was the same. So it can be a snap decision when we meet new people.

The way we look at people denotes our feelings, and if looks are returned in-kind then people will be drawn together, based on this mutual feeling. But while first impulses may set the scene for romance to blossom, studies have shown that it is generally the first few minutes of a meeting which can detemine the future success of a relationship.

A fundamental factor in all of this is that to find love, both parties need to be looking for it in some capacity, either in the moment they meet or in the long term. Only then is it more likely that “love at first sight” will plant the seeds of a lasting romance.
